Our verdict
The right default for a bedroom or a normal living room, and the reason is the filter design rather than the airflow. One combined cartridge every six months keeps the running cost near the bottom of the category, and Consumer Reports' own testing shows that number varying by hundreds of dollars a year between machines. It is quiet enough to sleep next to. If you are buying for wildfire smoke or a large open-plan floor, buy more CADR instead.

Strengths and limitations
Pros
- One combined filter instead of two, which is why its running cost sits at the low end of the category
- 24 dB on low — quiet enough that you will forget it is on
- AHAM-verified CADR, so the performance figure is comparable rather than a marketing claim
Cons
- Lower raw CADR than the Honeywell here, which matters during smoke events
- Covers 403 sq ft, so it is undersized for a large open-plan space
- Filters are proprietary, as with every purifier — factor that in for the life of the machine
