Portable power stations

Blackouts, van life, camping, or portable medical equipment: the question is always the same — how much energy do you actually need, and which station gives it to you without overpaying? Start with the calculator if you're not sure yet.

What actually matters here

Picksights methodology

  • Capacity (Wh) decides whether the station can actually run what you bought it for — a fridge or CPAP through an outage, not just top up a phone.
  • Continuous output (W) matters separately from capacity: a large battery can still be unable to start an appliance if its wattage ceiling is too low.
  • Charge speed is a real limitation the marketing rarely leads with — a big battery that takes all day to refill from solar changes how useful it actually is.
  • Surge wattage (a short burst rating) is not the same as continuous output — check both before assuming a station can run a specific appliance.
