Roborock Saros 10R vs Dreame X40 Ultra

The two most expensive robots in our ranking, for different reasons: the Saros 10R has, per RTINGS, the best obstacle avoidance it has tested, achieved without the tall turret most LiDAR robots need. The X40 Ultra cleans better in an independent 30-day test, but at 4.0 inches tall it's locked out of any gap under 4.3 inches.

The one to buy if your floor is an obstacle course. What separates it is not suction — plenty of cheaper robots match it there — but that it maps and avoids obstacles better than anything else tested, while staying low enough to get under furniture that traps taller LiDAR robots. In a cluttered home with pets and cables, that is the difference between a robot you run daily and one you rescue daily. In an open, tidy flat, you are paying roughly double for navigation you will not need.

Best cleaning performance

The best cleaner here, and our scoring still places it low — which is the whole point of weighting price. The independent 30-day test is unusually clear: it cleans better than anything else, and rivals costing $400-500 less deliver 85-90% of the result. That gap is real but it is not worth double to most people. Buy it if you have a large home with mixed flooring and want the margin along the baseboards genuinely clean; skip it if your furniture sits low, because it is too tall to fit underneath.

Pros

  • A 30-day independent test rated it the most complete system tested, handling carpet better than anything in its class
  • The MopExtend arm reaches the baseboard, which is where nearly every robot leaves a dirty margin
  • Fully autonomous dock — the reviewer never needed to intervene across a month

The real question: furniture clearance versus cleaning result

If you have low sofas or beds, measure the gap before deciding anything else: under 4.3 inches, the X40 Ultra is disqualified regardless of how much better it cleans. If your furniture leaves plenty of room, the decision shifts to cleaning result — and there the X40 Ultra wins in the independent 30-day test cited on its page, though the same reviewer estimates cheaper rivals deliver 85-90% of the result for $400-500 less.

The Saros 10R, meanwhile, is the "I don't want to babysit my robot" option: its obstacle avoidance is the best RTINGS has tested, which matters more than it sounds if you have cables, toys or pets on the floor.
